Tamara Lorenzen Steps Into Water Operator Role
The Town of Grimshaw is excited to announce that Tamara Lorenzen has completed her Alberta Water and Wastewater certification through Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and has officially stepped into the role of the Town’s Water Operator.
A special announcement was made during the Public Works Appreciation Week barbeque held earlier this afternoon, where Tamara was recognized and celebrated among fellow colleagues, residents, and guests.
“She worked extremely hard to earn this certification, a lot of it on her own time, and we’re very proud of her,” says Town of Grimshaw CAO Brian Allen. “It’s a process that often takes years, but Tamara’s focus and determination saw her through in just under a year. We’re grateful to have someone so dedicated, hardworking, and community-minded in this role—she takes great pride in serving the people of Grimshaw and Berwyn.”
Tamara, who has been with the Town for 10 years, began the certification process in May 2024 and successfully challenged all six required exams, earning an average score of 83%. In her new role, she tests water quality, tracks chlorine residuals, monitors water consumption from the aquifer, and ensures compliance by submitting reports to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas. Weekly samples are also sent to the provincial lab for further analysis. In addition to serving Grimshaw, Tamara also manages the drinking water systems for the Village of Berwyn.
Reflecting on her achievement, Tamara expressed deep gratitude. “I’m incredibly blessed to have the support of my family, my coworkers, and the community,” says Tamara. “Everyone has played a part—whether by encouraging me through the process, helping me study, or just believing in me. That support kept me grounded and focused.”
While her primary focus is now water operations, Tamara continues to assist the Public Works department whenever possible—helping haul gravel and snow, assisting with hydrovac work, and contributing to larger projects, including the final phase of the cemetery remediation project, wrapping up this summer.
“The Town of Grimshaw extends heartfelt congratulations to Tamara on this milestone and thanks her for her service and commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of our drinking water,” says Mayor Wendy Wald. “Tamara is an employee who genuinely cares for our community, and we are thrilled she is a part of the Town of Grimshaw team.”
