Voting in the Municipal Election - Frequently Asked Questions

Voters need to register on Voterlink through Elections Alberta by September 15, 2025, to be to be included in the Town of Grimshaw’s Permanent Electors Register. Non-registered voters will be required to complete registration at a voting station prior to receiving a ballot. Registering in advance for the Town of Grimshaw’s Permanent Electors Register will ensure your voting experience is as smooth as possible, faster and easier.

If you received a voting card from Elections Alberta during a provincial election, you are likely already listed on the Permanent Electors Register. To confirm your registration or update your information, visit voterlink.ab.ca.

If you’ve voted in previous elections, you may already be on the register. To ensure your information is current, visit voterlink.ab.ca.

There are two scenarios that will determine what ID you need in order to vote:

Registered voters are required to show valid government-issued identification containing, at minimum, the voter's photograph and name.

Non-registered voters are required to validate their ID by providing one of the following:

• One piece of government-issued identification containing the voter's photograph, name and current address; or

• One piece of identification containing the voter's name and current address.

Those unable to produce identification set out above may have a registered voter vouch for them. Learn more about vouching in a FAQ listed below.

If you're not listed on the Permanent Electors Register when you arrive at a voting station, you can still vote by presenting valid identification and completing a registration form in the presence of an Election Officer.

No. If you are only living in Grimshaw temporarily (example: just for the school year) and you normally live in another community, you should plan to return home to vote or contact your home municipality for your voting options in your place of permanent residence.

Voter Identification & Vouching – New for 2025

The province has updated the rules around vouching for the 2025 municipal election. Vouching can now only be used to confirm a voter's address, not their identity. This means all voters must present valid identification in order to vote.

If you are not registered and do not have ID showing your current address, you may still vote if another registered voter can vouch for your address.

To be vouched for:

• You must present valid identification.

• You must complete a declaration form provided at the Voting Station.

• You must be accompanied by a registered voter who can confirm your current address.

• The voter vouching for you must already be listed on the Permanent Electors Register.

• A voter may vouch for more than one person only if all individuals share the same address.

• Scrutineers are not permitted to vouch for anyone.
  
  

To make voting easier, residents are encouraged to register in advance on the Permanent Electors Register by September 15, 2025 at voterlink.ab.ca.

If you come to a voting station and do not have valid ID, you can have another voter vouch for you to validate your address. The individual requesting a voucher must:

• Show valid identification.
• Be accompanied by another voter who can validate their current address.
• Submit a statement by filling out a form provided by the Election Officer at a Voting Station.
