Council Meeting Highlights - March 12, 2025

Assessment Services Request for Proposal

Council directed Administration to draft a Request for Proposal for property assessment services. The selected provider will be responsible for the Town of Grimshaw’s property valuation, land assessment, and ensuring compliance with provincial regulations. Services will include annual property assessments, inspections, supplementary assessments, and representation in complaint hearings. 


Harvest Moon Festival Committee Street Closure & Barricade Request

Council approved a request from the Harvest Moon Festival Planning Committee for the temporary closure of Main Street (from the Krooked House to the Catholic Church) beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025 for the Harvest Moon Festival. Council also approved the committee’s request to place additional barricades at intersections and alleys connecting to Main Street on Friday night to accommodate an earlier start time for Saturday events. For 2025, the annual festival will expand to a two-day event, kicking off with a family-friendly movie night on Friday. Saturday’s events will start earlier, a Lego Competition will be introduced and the committee is considering the addition of midway rides for both Friday and Saturday.

 

Grimshaw Legion 75th Anniversary

Council received an invitation to the 75th Anniversary Celebration of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #253 on March 29, 2025. Mayor Wendy Wald will attend the event and bring greetings on behalf of the Town of Grimshaw.

Youth Unlimited Peace Country - Smash the Lot Carnival
Council approved a request from Peace Country Youth Unlimited YFC to use the parking lot north of the Town of Grimshaw Administration building for their "Smash the Lot Carnival with Room 27" fundraiser on May 24, 2024. The event will raise funds for local youth programs through carnival games, food sales, and a supervised "Smash Corner" activity. Peace Country Youth Unlimited YFC operates from the Town of Grimshaw Administration building.

RISK Program Support

Council approved a $550 donation to support the RISK Program (Reduce Injury with Student Knowledge), an initiative educating Grade 10 students on the risks of distracted and impaired driving. On October 7-8, 2025, RISK will host 250 students who will participate in workshops, witness a mock collision, and hear firsthand accounts of alcohol- and drug-related trauma to promote safer decision-making and injury prevention. This initiative helps youth make safer decisions and reduce preventable injuries in the community.

Mighty Peace Tourism Lunch and Learn

Council reviewed an invitation to the Mighty Peace Tourism Lunch and Learn event on March 18, 2025. The session will focus on enhancing tourism in the region and Councilor Carmen Johnson will attend on behalf of the Town of Grimshaw.
