Council Meeting Highlights - April 8, 2026
Here are the Council Meeting highlights from the April 8 meeting:
• Bylaw Officer, Lucien Dubois, presented an update to Council outlining his current activities and ongoing responsibilities within the bylaw enforcement role. He reviewed the bylaw report, highlighting key enforcement and compliance matters, and responded to questions from Council regarding bylaw operations and related concerns.
• Director of Operations, Butch Mitchell, presented an update to Council outlining winter operations, including snow plowing activities, clearing culverts, flood mitigation plans, and ongoing road maintenance throughout the season. He responded to questions from Council regarding public works operations and winter maintenance efforts.
• The July 8 Council meeting will be cancelled, and the September 23 Council meeting will be postponed to September 30 to accommodate the AB Municipalities Convention & Trade Show.
• Council approved the 2026 to 2031 Capital Budget and 2026 to 2029 Operations Budget as presented.
• Council approved the Political Activity on Town Property and Facilities Policy as written. The Town of Grimshaw is committed to maintaining politically neutral, inclusive, and welcoming environments on all Town property and facilities. These facilities, parks, roads, and boulevards are funded by public dollars and are intended to serve the recreational, social, and wellness needs of the entire community. This policy establishes clear guidelines respecting political activity on Town property and facilities to ensure fairness, neutrality, and positive user experiences.
• Council approved the Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy. This policy ensures the responsible and consistent use of Generative AI within the Town of Grimshaw.
• Council approved the Donation & Sponsorship Program Policy, a donation program structured on a quarterly basis. The second quarter funding requests were reviewed. Council will refer the Peace Region Minor Football request to Community Services Advisory Board. Council directed Administration to invite the Grimshaw Public School Fundraising Society to present to council. Council then approved to donate $350 to the Mile Zero Fan Summit, leaving $4,650 in the funding request budget for the remainder of 2026.
