Council Meeting Highlights - February 25, 2026

Here are the highlights from the February 25 Council Meeting:

  • Director of Community Services, Tracy Halerewich, presented information on several options for adjusting the operating hours at the Les Shaw Fitness Center. Council reviewed the materials provided, which included the survey results from residents regarding their preferences for either a 24hour facility or extended hours. The report also detailed the associated costs for each option, including full 24hour access, extended staffed hours, and a hybrid model that would offer fob access for users outside of regular operating hours. Council approved to extend the Fitness Centre hours to 5am – 9pm Monday to Sunday, starting on September 1, 2026.

  • Director of Community Services, Tracy Halerewich, brought forth information regarding the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention (RCSP) Grimshaw Satellite Office and the positive impact it has on our community. RCSP provides locally accessible mental health literacy, suicide prevention education, and resource navigation supports to residents of Grimshaw and surrounding rural communities. RCSP focuses on prevention, early intervention, and community education, helping residents build skills, access appropriate supports, and connect to services. Council moved that FCSS will allocate $10,000.00 dollars from the 2026 FCSS operating budget to the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention – Grimshaw Satellite Office to assist with their annual programming costs.

  • Council approved to extend Sandra Eastman’s term for one year and Brenda Armstrong’s term for three years on the Grimshaw Municipal Library Board.

  • Councillor Florence will speak at the opening ceremonies and Councillor Krantz will speak at the closing ceremonies at the Alberta Pond Hockey Championships.
