Rail Safety Week - September 21 to 27
The Town of Grimshaw has officially proclaimed September 21 to 27, 2026, as Rail Safety Week.
Rail Safety Week is dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of trespassing on railway property and the importance of obeying signs and signals at crossings. 252 railway crossing and trespassing incidents occurred in Canada in 2025; resulting in 69 avoidable fatalities and 60 avoidable serious injuries.
Tips to “BE RAIL SMART”
- Stop a safe distance from tracks and crossings.
- Look both ways to ensure trains are not approaching.
- Listen for approaching trains.
Rail Safety Week is an important reminder that railways are a vital part of our transportation network. Whether driving, walking, cycling, or operating equipment near railway infrastructure, everyone has a role to play in staying safe around tracks and crossings.
The Town of Grimshaw encourages staff, residents, and visitors to take a moment during Rail Safety Week to review safe practices and help promote awareness throughout our communities.
