Council Meeting Highlights - September 24, 2025

✏️ Organizational and Regular Council Meetings
Council set the 2025 Organizational Meeting for Monday, November 3, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. This meeting will include the swearing-in of the Mayor and Councillors, the appointment of the Deputy Mayor, the establishment of the regular meeting schedule, and the appointment of representatives to committees and boards. The first Regular Council Meeting of the new Council will be held on November 5 at 7:00 p.m.

✏️ Cancellation of October 22 Council Meeting
Council voted to cancel the October 22, 2025 Regular Council Meeting as it falls just two days after the new Council’s term begins. This provides time for mandatory orientation and training which is required prior to the new Council’s first regular board meeting. Should it be deemed necessary, Council could call a special meeting if urgent matters arise.

✏️ Alberta Next Panel Update
Deputy Mayor Stacey Messner updated Council on the Alberta Next Panel Session she attended in Grande Prairie on September 17, 2025. The Alberta Next Panel is a provincial initiative gathering input from Albertans on various areas of interest. Council requested that the update be revisited at the November 5, 2025, meeting with the new Council. Administration was directed to provide background information to incoming Councillors and to inquire about inviting the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services Team and MLA Nolan Dyck to present information on the Police Funding Model.

✏️ Shared Schools Facility Parking
Council reviewed concerns and viewed proposed changes to address parking and safety near the Grimshaw Shared Schools Facility at 50th Street. Council directed Administration to compile a report addressing snow removal and emergency access for the proposed changes, and that it be added as an agenda item for an upcoming Joint Shared Schools Committee meeting.

✏️ Greenspace Maintenance Agreement Extension
Council reviewed the current contract for municipal greenspace maintenance and approved a three-year extension with A.C.E.S. Vegetation for an annual fee of $84,000.00.

✏️ Grave and Urn Site Requirement – Flood Remediation Section Policy
Council reviewed the Grave and Urn Site Policy that outlines requirements to protect the integrity of the four newly restored sections of the Grimshaw Women’s Institute Cemetery. Council requested that the requirement for hand-digging for urn placements be extended to the entire cemetery.

✏️ Revive Communications Contract Termination
Council received and accepted formal notice from Revive Communications regarding termination of the agreement to provide communication services for the Town of Grimshaw, effective October 16, 2025. Council thanked Vanessa Burns for her work in supporting the Town’s communications.

✏️ Fire Chief Services Agreement
Council reviewed the Fire Chief Services Agreement with the Town of Grimshaw and the MD of Peace No. 135. Administration was directed to bring the agreement back to the November 26, 2025 meeting for review by the new Council, and thereafter on an annual basis each February.

✏️ Invitation for Tender – Cemetery Grass Cutting Contract
Council was updated on the public tender for grass cutting services at the Women’s Institute Cemetery. The tender covers a three-year term from May 1, 2026, to September 30, 2028.

The last official meeting of the current Council will be held on October 8, 2025 at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers at the Town of Grimshaw Administration Office.
