Check out the highlights from the Town of Grimshaw Council Meeting held on May 28, 2025 below.

Vision 2030 Planning Committee
Council approved the formation of a Vision 2030 Committee to help guide the planning of Grimshaw’s centennial, taking place in 2030. The committee includes community members, two Town Councillors, Town of Grimshaw leadership staff, and the Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Committee Development Officer. The first meeting will be scheduled in the coming weeks. Council extends its gratitude to all those who put their name forward to be part of the Vision 2030 Planning Committee.

➤ Paving Project
Council reviewed tenders submitted for 2025 paving work on 47A Street and awarded the contract to Knelsen Sand and Gravel for $782,491.75.

➤ Harvest Moon Sponsorship
Council approved a $5,000 sponsorship for the 2025 Harvest Moon Festival, scheduled for September 12–13, 2026, in Grimshaw. Hosted by the Grimshaw & District Chamber of Commerce, this marks the fifth year of the event, which will expand to two days. Activities include but are not limited to an outdoor cinema, Lego competition, a car show, an open-air market, a kids’ fun zone, bouncy castles, food vendors, an inflatable costume race, live music and beer gardens.

➤ Multiplex Flooring Upgrades
Council approved upgrades to the upstairs flooring at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex. The project will replace the current surface with a higher-quality commercial-grade product to match the new downstairs flooring, reducing long-term maintenance needs/costs and improving durability. Funding will come from the Town's capital reserves.

➤ RCMP Fourth Quarter Report
Council reviewed the Peace Regional RCMP’s Q4 report, covering January to March of 2025. The report shows an overall 21% decrease in criminal code offences compared to the same period last year. Property crimes remain a key focus, with several ongoing investigations and community partnerships in place to address problem areas. Community engagement continues through programs like “Coffee with a Cop,” school presentations, and meetings with local leaders.

➤ Regional Healthcare Conference
Council reviewed correspondence from the Peace Regional Healthcare Attraction and Retention Committee requesting support for a regional bid to host the 2026 Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) Biennial Conference in early October. Council voted in favour of the bid and approved the request for the Town of Grimshaw to provide administrative support, should the region be selected to host the event. The event is expected to draw approximately 200 attendees from across Alberta.

➤ Media and Communications Policy
Council reviewed a proposed Media and Communications Policy that outlines processes and guidelines for internal and external communications for the Town of Grimshaw. Council requested minor amendments to the proposed policy and that it be brought back to the June 11, 2025 Council meeting for approval.

➤ Regional Water Operator Agreement
Council approved a three-year regional water operator agreement with the Village of Berwyn effective June 1, 2025. The Town of Grimshaw provides water and wastewater services for the Village of Berwyn.

➤ AB Munis Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus
Council reviewed registration information for the 2026 AB Munis Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus on June 25, 2025, at Peace Valley Inns in Peace River. Mayor Wendy Wald, Deputy Mayor Stacey Messner and CAO Brian Allen will attend the event.

The next Council Meeting is scheduled for June 11, 2025 at 7 pm at the Town of Grimshaw Administration Office in Council Chambers. These are open meetings, and the public is welcome to attend.
