2026 Steve Bolkowy Sports Award

At the regularly scheduled Town of Grimshaw Community Services Advisory Board Meeting held on October 21, 2026, we had the honour of presenting the 2026 Steve Bolkowy Sports Award to Carson Ewing!

For the past 11 years, Carson has consistently gone above and beyond to provide students with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sports. During this time, he has coached golf, cross-country running, volleyball, curling, badminton, and track & field, and continues to coach these sports this year. His commitment to athletics is further demonstrated through his role as the school’s Athletic Director for all 11 years, where he has helped support, organize, and promote athletic opportunities for countless students.

Carson’s commitment extends beyond the school and into the broader community. During the 2022/2023 season, he served as an assistant coach with the Peace River Navigators, further demonstrating his passion for developing athletes and supporting sport in our region.

He also believes strongly in encouraging young people to be active, involved, and connected to their community. Each year, Carson organizes the school’s Terry Fox Run and Jump Rope for Heart events, giving students the opportunity to participate in activities that promote both physical activity and giving back to others.

For the past three years, Carson has also organized a Blue Jays baseball program for students in Grades 4–6 after school, providing another opportunity for young athletes to learn skills, develop confidence, and most importantly, enjoy being part of a team. He plans to continue this program again this year.

What makes Carson particularly deserving of recognition is that his contribution does not stop at coaching. He is constantly looking for ways to create opportunities and experiences for students. He helps organize and participate in fundraising events, including activities at the Harvest Moon Festival, Children’s Annual Halloween Party at the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex, and other community events. These efforts help provide funding for school athletics and, importantly, help make it possible for the junior high students to attend an Edmonton Oilers game each year -an experience that many students may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy.

For 11 years, Carson has given his time, energy, and passion to students, often behind the scenes and without seeking recognition. His dedication has helped generations of young people discover the value of teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, physical activity, and community involvement.

Carson Ewing is much more than a coach. He is a mentor, leader, role model, and advocate for youth. His long-standing commitment to athletics and to creating meaningful opportunities for students makes him an exceptional candidate for this recognition.

Established in 1972, this annual award recognizes outstanding individuals who have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to volunteering in sports and recreation throughout our community and surrounding area.

For over five decades, this award has celebrated the incredible volunteers who help make Grimshaw and the surrounding area a stronger, more active, and vibrant community. Their commitment to supporting local sports and recreation programs creates opportunities for people of all ages and leaves a lasting impact on those they serve.
