Information for Candidates

Thank you for your interest in the 2025 Municipal Elections and for considering serving in this way. In Grimshaw, you can become a candidate for either Mayor or Councillor, and there are six councillor positions.

If you intend to run for municipal office, we encourage you to download our Candidates Information Package, view our Frequently Asked Questions and read a great article on the Alberta Municipality website, Running for Municipal Office. Please feel free to contact our Returning Officer, Belinda Russell or Deputy Returning Officer, Sabrina Collett at 780-332-4626 with any questions. The election is set for October 20, 2025 and the nomination period is open (effective January 1, 2025). 


How to become a candidate

1. Check if you are eligible
 Review the Local Authorities Elections Act s.21(1) Eligibility Requirements.

2. Submit Notice of Intent (all forms are posted at the bottom of this page)
Anyone who intends to run as a candidate in the 2025 Municipal Election must file a Notice of Intent. Prospective candidates can submit their Notice of Intent from now until September 22, 2025. The Notice of Intent must be filed, it can be filed prior to filing nomination papers or filed at the time the nomination papers are filed. Candidates who plan to run in the 2025 Election can only accept campaign contributions and incur campaign expenses once their Notice of Intent is accepted by the Returning Officer and they are added to the Register of Candidates

3. Submit Nomination Forms with a Returning Officer
Candidates must download and complete Form 4 - Nomination Form, and Form 5 - Candidate Financial Information accessible below. Please note that you must sign the nomination paper in the presence of a Commissioner for Oaths or the Returning Officer at the Town of Grimshaw Administration Office.
