Minister Visit at Mile Zero Regional Multiplex

Dr Retention July 2014 010

A video crew from Rural Physician Action Plan (RPAP) came to Grimshaw on July 31 to interview members of our Regional Health Care Recruitment Committee.    Grimshaw has been very successful in recruitment and retention of physicians.  Committee members were interviewed on the process used to recruit new doctors and some of the retention initiatives they have undertaken.   RPAP wants to share our success story with the rest of the Province.

This Committee was established as a regional partnership between 4 municipalities, the Town of Grimshaw, the Village of Berwyn, the Municipal District of Peace No. 135 and the County of Northern Lights.  Committee membership consists of elected representation from each municipality along with their Chief Administrative Officers, 2 local Doctors as well as representation from Alberta Health Services.  Our Committee was formed to work together collaboratively on the task of recruitment and retention of physicians.

The committee has worked closely with various volunteers in order to make the transition for new Doctors coming to our community as smooth as possible.  These volunteers are called upon to assist the Doctor and his/her family from the time of the initial site visit to them settling in and becoming valued members of our community. The committee in concert with community members help  the new physician and their family find housing , transportation, provide assistance with banking and other daily needs as well as seeking  employment for the doctor’s spouse. All the initiatives undertaken by the committee are done in an effort to make the doctor and their family feel welcome in their new home and become a part of our great community.

Community Conversation Parking Lot Final

In addition to input collected and recorded in the “What You Said Report” from the Grimshaw Shared School Facility Project Community Conversation, additional questions, concerns and advice were posted to the “Parking Lot” by community members.  The Parking Lot is a wall where people were invited to put forth additional comments, concerns, questions or advice on post-it notes.  View the “Questions and Answers” document HERE (will link to document) collaboratively compiled by the Town of Grimshaw, Peace River School Division and Holy Family Catholic Division in response to community questions.  Please click this link Community Conversation Parking Lot Final

Grimshaw Shared School Facility Project
On May 27, 2014 The Town of Grimshaw, Peace River School Division and Holy Family Catholic Regional Division joined with approximately 100 Grimshaw community members to gather input on the Grimshaw Shared School Facility Project.  The Grimshaw Shared Community School Project will see a K-12 Public school and a K-9 Catholic School attached to the Mile Zero Regional Multiplex by the fall of 2016.  The input of the community from the Community Conversation is captured HERE in the “What You Said Report.”  What You Said Report Grimshaw Community Conversation.  Additional questions, comments and concerns outside of the focused group discussions were posted to a “parking lot” document.   These items are currently being responded to by way of a question and answer document that will be added to this wepage in the very near future.  The information gathered through the Grimshaw Shared School Facility Community Conversation and other meetings held to date will be reviewed and considered while planning the new facility in order to best meet the needs of the entire community.  Once the design for the school is complete, a public meeting will be held to share the design with the community.  The Town of Grimshaw, Peace River School Division and Holy Family Catholic Regional Division thank the community of Grimshaw for their time and input during the Community Conversation!
